About Us

Having been reared in what must be among the tiniest communities in Mississippi, I am simply a young lady from the Deep South living her dream.  I grew up on a plantation outside of Rolling Fork, Mississippi. My grandparents resided on both sides of the creek as I was growing up.  There were many families living there, which means there were many kids.  Having a large family appeared to be the norm for women back then.  The children played while the adults worked. My grandpa would travel to town once a week and purchase a large quantity of snacks--which every child on the plantation was aware of. He would then store all of the snacks in a large box. Every time they visited my grandpa for a snack, he would have them sign a paper indicating what they had taken from the box. At the end of each week, he would collect the money from their parents.  He named the snack box, “The Yum Yum Box." Just remembering how the children’s little eyes lit up when they were picking through the snacks in that yum yum box--is exactly how I want to see our customers' eyes light up when looking at all of the different items we have on the menu!  That is why I chose the name “The Yum Yum Box!"

I absolutely love to cook, Cooking is my “happy place."  I get joy in watching others enjoy my food because I want to bring that same pleasure to as many people as I can.  I worked for other people for a very long time.  I would give my all to make sure that their businesses and organizations were thriving.  Sometimes, I didn’t even get paid anything.  It’s sad to say--but some people will take your kindness for weakness.  There were people who continuously spoke life over my future and I always received what they were saying.  Nevertheless, things were not going to change, and prophecies were not going to come into fruition, until I made the conscious decision to step out on faith and believe that God had something much greater for me!  When I stopped trusting and believing people, and put my trust in God, things started to fall right into place--and my dream of owning my own restaurant took on a form of its own.

Here, at The Yum Yum Box, our goal is to be a place where you can come and feel safe, comfortable and at home.  We want you to feel at peace just like you are a part of our family.  We want to give you your money’s worth, with large food portions, the greatest experience, and the best customer service you've ever had! We are thankful for all of the continued support and we look forward to seeing you soon!
